My name is Tom Harris, Ph. D., The Hill Country Gardener. I am a Master Gardener certified by the State of Texas, a Master Pruner certified by the San Antonio Botanical Garden, and a founder and volunteer for the Gardening Volunteers of South Texas (GVST). From the Master Gardener program I have received advanced training in plant diseases, insects, drip irrigation, hazardous waste, compost and soils, and have been actively involved in vegetable trials and plant propagation.
I have been president of the Bexar County Master Gardeners, Master Gardener of the Year, and editor of the Bexar County Master Gardener newsletter. I'm also active as a speaker and teacher for the organization. I do lots of speaking for other groups, continuing education classes for several school districts, write a weekly newspaper gardening column and articles for magazines, newsletters, etc.
I am a certified Square Foot Gardening instructor (first one in Texas).
The latest service I have added to my Hill Country Gardener business is what I term a "YARD AUDIT." It amounts to my coming to your home and doing a walk-through with you in your yard to evaluate what's there while answering any questions you may have about the yard. Evidently, no one else in our area has a service like this. It isn't a free service, but the price is reasonable. If interested, contact me at gardener@gvtc.com and we'll set a date.
